CONCEPT - SUMMARY WRITING
What is summary writing?
Summary writing is a form of writing that summarizes a larger reading. It is NOT about rewriting the original piece, but about using our own words to express its main idea along with other relevant details. While writing a summary of the original piece, we need to remember the following points:
- Purpose of summary: To give the basic ideas of the original piece
- Listing of ideas: To list down the basic ideas of the original work before explaining them briefly
- Structure of summary: To organize the summary including Introduction (What is it about), Body (Brief explanation of the content) and Conclusion (Summary of the explanation)
- Use of vocabulary: To use synonyms wherever possible and relevant words to make it comprehensive
