CONCEPT - TRANSITIONAL WORDS

What are transitional words?
Transitional words are words and phrases that connect your ideas with logical ordering in a sentence or paragraph. Transitional words help carry a thought from one sentence to another, link one idea to another, and thus connect one paragraph to another in a logical manner. Transitional words give your paragraph coherence while enhancing your writing skills. In order to use transitional words appropriately, you will need to know,

  • How to use transitional words
  • Examples of transitional words and their meaning
  • Where to place the transitional words in a sentence
Here's an example of paragraphs with and without transitional words (Source: www.une.edu.au).
